Fragomen FIRST · Immigration Risk Stability Tracker

A real-time immigration risk tracker for a leading US law firm with global offices. It consolidates immigration knowledge from offices worldwide into a single interactive map, so legal teams can read country-by-country risk at a glance.

The problem

The firm's immigration expertise lived across its offices around the world, but it was never consolidated.

Without a single source, assessing and comparing country-specific risk was slow and inconsistent, with a real chance of legal oversights. The job was to turn scattered global knowledge into one current, reliable, easy-to-read picture.

The approach

What we did

01

Product exploration with PMs and stakeholders to define what the tool needed to be.

02

Research with the analysts and lawyers who'd actually use it, to ground our assumptions.

03

Wireframes and proposals, refined as we tested our assumptions.

04

An interactive world map as the primary interface — with a synced country list, search, filters, and per-country risk scores across 114 countries.

05

Real-time data so the picture stays current, and accessibility so global offices can use it from any location or device.

The calls that shaped it

Where the obvious path and the right path diverged — the problem, my call, and the trade-off.

01

A compact view on hover, so the map stays the map

The problem

Each country carries a lot of risk detail, but a world map has no room for it — and a separate page per country kills the at-a-glance value.

My call

A compact "mini" view of a country's risk on hover — enough to read the situation without leaving the map.

The trade-off

Hover is a desktop behaviour and slightly hidden — it doesn't exist on touch, and you have to know to use it. So I didn't let the quick read depend on hover alone; the bottom navigation strip (below) gives the same fast preview another way.

02

A quick-scan strip at the bottom, not the full list every time

The problem

The full left-hand country list is thorough but heavy — it takes space and attention, and for a quick scan or a fast jump between countries you don't need all 114 entries open.

My call

A horizontal, scrollable strip of country cards along the bottom — flag, risk score and a severity bar — for quick previews and fast navigation, with the full list still there when someone needs depth or exhaustive search.

The trade-off

The strip shows only a handful at once and leads with the headline score over the finer detail, so it complements the full list rather than replacing it — two navigation models to keep coherent, in exchange for a much faster everyday read.
